The Montana House
Brief Description: The Montana House program is currently a collaboration between the Montana Board of Housing (MBOH), the Blackfeet Housing Authority, and Blackfeet Manpower. The MBOH provides the building materials for the homes. In Browning, under the leadership and guidance of the Blackfeet Housing Authority. The building crew, consisting of men and women, is recruited from Blackfeet Manpower. The communities involved have gained not only new, beautiful, high-quality, energy-efficient, affordable homes, but have also increased the skilled labor in their community. This is important for continued building, repairs to homes and for renovation of older homes.
The Montana House launches new opportunities and new possibilities in affordable housing. The Montana House is currently constructed in either two-bedroom or three-bedroom configurations. The three-bedroom, two-bath home is available in two floor plans; 1200 sq ft or 1400 sq ft.
The two-bedroom, one-bath home is available in two different floor plans; 960 sq ft or 1008 sq ft. Each home features 2x6 exterior walls with R-19 insulation, quality vinyl windows, oak kitchen and bath cabinets and energy efficient gas forced air furnace.
The home normally comes complete except for appliances and flooring which the homebuyer provides. The homebuyer is also responsible for the lot, foundation, moving from the building site, placement on the foundation and utility hook-ups and fees. Many parts of this process can be negotiated and
technical assistance can be provided, when necessary for lot acquisition and site preparation.
