The Montana Board of Housing offers programs to assist first-time homebuyers; helps governments, nonprofit groups, and private developers create affordable homes, apartments and supportive housing; and provides funding for rehab and repair assistance for homeowners through local groups.
So whether you are trying to buy your first home, maintain and keep the home you have, or protect your rights as a renter, we may be able to help.
Homebuyers
If your income has kept you out of the housing market, our First-Time Homebuyer 30-year fixed-rate mortgage and closing cost assistance may make the difference. And if you think you earn too much to qualify, check out our income limits – they may be higher than you expect. We recommend that anyone who is thinking about buying a home take a First-Time Homebuyer class offered in many communities in Montana, and require it for most of our loans. Click the logo below. Homeowners
If you have already purchased a home using a First-Time Homebuyer mortgage, we can answer any questions you may have about your loan. You can find information about the Reverse Annuity Mortgage Program. This section also includes information on housing rehabilitation and repair programs available through local groups and how to maintain your home.
Renters
If you are looking for afforable rental housing in Montana there are many options available across the state. The Housing Division helps increase the inventory of affordable rentals by offering financing to developers of these units using the Low Income Housing Tax Credit Program, as well as Multifamily Loans, Project-Based Section 8 properties, and the HOME Investment Partnerships program.
